Cong MLA suspended for obstructing Assam Assembly proceedings

| @indiablooms | Dec 30, 2020, at 01:10 am

Guwahati/UNI: Opposition Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi was suspended from the Assam Assembly and pushed out forcibly on the second day of its winter session on Tuesday.

Kurmi had wanted to raise the issue of alleged encroachment by Nagaland into Assam territory as well as such attempts by other neighbouring states at the beginning of the Question Hour.

Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami pointed out that other matters could be allowed in the Question Hour and asked him to bring the issue through proper provisions.

Kurmi, however, refused to be pacified and continued speaking and creating a chaotic situation.

After repeated requests to sit down failed, the Speaker ordered the marshal to take out Kurmi from the House and ordered his suspension from the proceedings for the day.
