Clashes erupt in Manipur, curfew shortened

Imphal: Clashes were reported from New Checkon area of Imphal East district on Monday after some persons, who were wielding weapons, asked the shops to close down.

As soon as the reports spread, people from other communities came out and protested.

To control the situation, the Imphal East district administration has shortened the curfew relaxation from 4 pm to 1 pm.

The relaxation in Imphal West has been shortened to 2 pm.

Since May 3, clashes between two ethnic groups led to the deaths of several people.

Over 47,000 people were displaced in the incident.

Internet was also suspended from May 3 last.
