Chidambaram slams ED, IT raids on his son's firm

Chennai, Dec 1 (IBNS): With the Enforcement Directorate and income tax department conducting raids at his son Karti's firm on Tuesday, former finance minister P Chidambaram has now slammed the NDA government.
He said the raids were "malicious onslaught" by the government.

"If the government wishes to target me, they should do so directly, not harass friends of my son who carry on their own businesses and have nothing to do with politics," Chidambaram said in a statement available with the media.

"My family and I are quite prepared to face the malicious onslaught launched by the government," he said.

In August, the Enforcement Directorate had summoned two directors of Advantage Strategic Consulting, a company allegedly linked to Karti Chidambaram, in the Aircel-Maxis case.

In the Aircel-Maxis case, ED had in December last year questioned former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanithi, owners of Sun Network group companies.

In his statement on Tuesday, Chidambaram said, "We have made it clear, repeatedly, that no member of my family has any equity or economic interest in any of the firms that are being targeted. They are companies that are professionally managed and are capable of answering any question that may be put to them by the authorities. I condemn the attempt to link them to my son and harass them on that ground," he said.
