Charges of abduction framed against Vikas Barala and friend in the Chandigarh Varnika Kundu stalking case

Chandigarh, Oct 13 (IBNS): A district court has framed charges of abduction against Vikas Barala and Ashish Kumar in the Chandigarh stalking case that hit the headlines in August this year, according to media reports.

Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief's son Vikas Barala and his friend Ashish Kumar, were arrested for allegedly stalking a senior IAS officer’s daughter, Varnika Kundu.

The incident had taken place the night before.

The victim Varnika Kundu, who is a video jockey, alleged that her car was followed by a Tata Safari Storm on Aug 4.

According to her, the men driving the SUV were drunk and pulled up close to her car several times.

She alleged that they even tried to block her way to force her to other routes.

She claimed that at one point, the SUV blocked her way and the person in the co-driver’s seat got down and started walking towards her vehicle.

She then  reversed the vehicle and started moving. However, the men continued to follow her.

The girl then called up the 100 helpline and gave the number details of the SUV and her location.

Initially, charges against the duo were dropped and they were granted bail, which raised a furore.

Subsequently, they were arrested on Aug 9 and their bail pleas were also rejected on Aug 29.

Meanwhile, V.S. Kundu, the victim's father was transferred to a low key department by the state government, the media reported.
