New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Around 16 students from various Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country will get an opportunity to witness the historic landing of Chandrayaan 2 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sept 7.

These students have been selected through an Online Space Quiz conducted by ISRO.

"A total number of 1,50, 279 students from various KVs from all over the country participated in the online quiz," a statement said.

A day after Lander Vikram got separated from Orbiter, the first de-orbiting manoeuver for Chandrayaan-2 was performed successfully on Tuesday as the spacecraft inched closer for a soft landing on a hitherto unexplored frontier, the Moon's South Polar region on Sept 7.

ISRO in its update said the first de-orbiting manoeuver for Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was performed successfully beginning at 0850 hrs as planned, using the onboard propulsion system.

The duration of the manoeuvre was four seconds. The orbit of Vikram Lander is 104 km x 128 km.

Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter continues to orbit the Moon in the existing orbit and both the Orbiter and Lander are healthy.

The next de-orbiting manoeuvre is scheduled on Wednesday between 0330 hrs and 0430 hrs.
