Centre bans Ullu, ALTT, other OTT apps over obscene content

New Delhi/IBNS: The central government on Friday banned 25 OTT apps including Ullu, ALTT for streaming obscene content, media reports said.

The Centre has directed the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to disable all the listed apps from streaming.

The list of apps include Big Shots App, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, Triflicks.

The ISPs have been directed to disable public access to these apps, which have been accused of streaming sexually implicit contents and violating India's legal and cultural standards.

The Centre's crackdown on the apps came after the Supreme Court's appeal to the government to take steps responding to a petition calling for a ban on the platforms over sexually explicit contents.

In May, Ullu faced flak for one of its clippings in show House Arrest where the host had forced the contestants to perform sex positions.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi raised the issue in the standing committee taking a strong objection to the contents.
