CBI raids rice-mill in Birbhum, Anubrata Mondal taken to Command Hospital for routine medical check-up

Bolpur/Kolkata: The CBI, probing the cattle trafficking case across the Indian borders in West Bengal, on Monday raided a rice mill in Birbhum district, which allegedly has stakes of the relatives of arrested Anubrata Mondal, official sources said.

Meanwhile, a separate official report from Kolkata said Mondal, who has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from his village Nichupatti house in Birbhum on Aug 11, was being taken to the Command Hospital ( Army) in south Kolkata for routine check up.

Sixty-two-year-old Mondal, the ruling TMC president of Birbhum district, was picked up from his house after his alleged non-cooperation with the ongoing CBI probe in cattle smuggling and ignoring summons, at least ten times.

Mondal is now in the CBI custody by an Asansol court order until Wednesday. The court directed routine medical check-up to be done on Mondal every 48 hours.

In Birbhum the CBI teams on Monday raided the ‘Shiva Shambhu Rice Mill’, which has the share of Raja Ghosh, the nephew of Mondal.

The mill is located at Bhubandanga Sukanta Pally in an area of over 10 bighas of land.

The CBI in late last week also raided Bhole Bomb rice mill where some expensive cars were parked, source added.

The CBI during search operations allegedly uncovered many moveable and immoveable properties, including money of over 17 crores in seven banks, in the name of Mondal and other fictitious names.

Sources claimed Mondal, also considered a close lieutenant of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has meteoric rice in property for the past eight years.
