CBI charges 7 people in Nido Taniam death case

New Delhi, May 2 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday chargesheeted seven people, including three juveniles in the murder case of Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Taniam.

The seven people have been chargesheeted under the charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, wrongful confinement, destruction of evidence and various sections of the prevention of atrocities act, reports said.


Taniam had succumbed to his injuries after being allegedly beaten up by some shopkeepers in south Delhi earlier this year.

His autopsy report has confirmed that he died of injuries to his head and face.

The state police earlier informed the Delhi High court that there were two rounds of fight between the Arunachali, the shopkeepers and his friends.

In what appeared to be a violent attack on a member of the Northeast community, 18-year-old Nido Taniam, son of an MLA and who was a student from Arunachal Pradesh and was studying in Delhi, died on Jan 30 from alleged beatings by several shopkeepers in a market area of Lajpat Nagar in the national capital on Jan 29 evening.

Nido Taniam, had got engaged in an altercation on Jan 29 with some people in the market after he was teased for his hairstyle leading to a fight.
