Bus plunges into river in Himachal Pradesh, 44 feared dead

Shimla, Apr 19 (IBNS): A private bus plunged into river Tons in a remote area in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, resulting in the death of 44 passengers, according to media reports.

The accident occurred in Nerwa area of Shimla district.

According to local police, the death toll may increase as the bus was very crowded.

The accident site was about 12 km from the Uttarkhand border.

Reportedly, the bus was headed for Tiyuni in Uttarakhand.

Police teams from Shimla and Sirmour have launched rescue operations while State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams from Chakrata and Dehradun will also help in relief and rescue operations, according to media reports.

Tweeted Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, "Deeply saddened to hear the news of bus accident near Nerwa in H.P.
My condolences to families of deceased & wish speedy covery of injured."
