Hamirpur, Apr 26 (UNI): Bharatiya Janata Party’s two heavyweights, Anurag Thakur and Kishan Kapoor, filed their nominations respectively from Hamirpur and Kangra Lok Sabha constituencies in Himachal Pradesh on Friday.

Anurag Thakur, son of former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and two-time MP from Hamirpur, submitted his papers in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and his father who accompanied him to the Returning Officer along with a battery of slogan-shouting supporters. BJP' state president Satpal Satti was also present on the occasion. The road from Bhutta Chowk to the DC office was decorated with buntings and posters as a huge procession waded through.

Anurag has seen a political surge in the past few years and is among the two political leaders trending on social media platforms.

The other is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who filed his nomination from Varanasi amid a grand roadshow of people -- gathered to have a look of their leader.

Soon after the nomination, Mr Anurag conducted a road show followed by a massive rally where speakers from the ruling party lambasted the Congress party for “destroying the nation” and causing irreparable loss by taking anti-people decision in the past 70 years.

Dhumal expressed the hope that the BJP would win all the four seats from the state with a thumping majority.

In Kangra, Mr Kishan Kapoor, who resigned from the Jai Ram Thakur Government to contest the election, also filed his nomination. He was accompanied by several BJP leaders and a large number of supporters. Later, he conducted a huge roadshow which culminated into a rally which was addressed among others by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and former Chief Minister Mr Shanta Kumar and Mr Dhumal.

The nodal officer had ordered that the road show of Mr Kishan Kapoor be videographed in the wake of Congress party complaint that the government machinery was being misused by the ruling party in favour of Mr Kapoor.
