BJP protests burning of PM Modi’s effigy on Dussehra, Cong says nothing unusual

Patna, Oct 13 (The Bihar Post/IBNS): The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted bitterly to the burning of effigy of demon king Ravana with faces of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief Amit Shah and eight others on Dussehra and described as indicative of low-level politics in India.

The effigy was burnt by the Congress-backed student group, National Student Union of India (NSUI), on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus.

Although the idea was to register symbolic protest over PM’s alleged “failure” to fulfill his promises he made to the country and “Hindu fundamentalist ideas”, the move has triggered strong protests.

“The Congress is strengthening the fists of Pakistan,” alleged BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra who also asked the party chief Sonia Gandhi to tender a public apology.

Another BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Husain condemned the incident, describing it as sheer display of “low-level politics”.

“The country will never accept such despicable things. The Congress should stop such low-level practice and tender apology for this act,” said Husain.

But Congress said it did not fidn anything wrong. “This was not the first time in history that any effigy of a leader was burnt. This is usual practice to register symbolic protests,” remarked Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh.

The effigy also had faces of Yoga guru Ramdev, Sadhvi Pragya, Nathuram Godse, Asaram Bapu and others.
