BJP let down Nitish, says Congress

| @indiablooms | May 31, 2019, at 10:12 pm

Patna, May 31 (UNI) Congress today accused BJP of letting down Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and his party JD(U) by not accommodating his justified demand for adequate representation in newly formed union cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which led to a last moment decision of Mr Kumar saying no to invitation to his party to join the cabinet.

Leader of Congress legislative party in Bihar assembly Sadanand Singh said the demand of Mr Kumar for proportionate representation of his party in the government was justified.

"How could Mr Kumar accept the offer of only one berth in the Union cabinet with his party having 16 MPs in Lok Sabha and six MPs in Rajya Sabha while the LJP, with only 6 MPs in Lok Sabha, was also given one berth in the cabinet?" he added.

"Such treatment meted out to Mr Kumar and his party JD(U) is an insult not only for him but for people of Bihar," he said.

Mr Kumar had done a wonderful job by rejecting the offer of symbolic representation in new Union cabinet by the BJP and it was really appreciable, he noted.

Congress leader said that people had given mandate to chief minister Kumar with RJD and Congress as his coalition partners in 2015 Bihar assembly elections.

People had delivered verdict asking BJP to sit in opposition but it was Mr Kumar who give the party an opportunity to be in government after dumping Grand Alliance, he recalled.

Even such a good gesture for BJP by Mr Kumar was not recognised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while deciding representation of constituents of NDA in his new government, Mr Singh maintained.
