BJP and Sena leaders slam Digvijaya Singh for his 'anti Hindu' statement

New Delhi, Sept 19 (UNI): The BJP and its ally Shiv Sena on Thursday lashed out at the senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for his comments on Hindus and the priests and maintained that his remarks have hurt the sentiment of Hindus.

Singh in a public function on Tuesday said, "Today, people are wearing saffron clothes and raping...such offence is happening inside temples. Is this our religion?"

"What he said has hurt crores of Hindus....," the BJP spokesman Nalin Kohli told reporters. He said such remarks from a senior leader like Digvijaya Singh who was once touted as being 'guru' of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is totally unbecoming.

"By his statement he is suggesting that no Puja or religious rites take place in temples....," said Kohli.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande also criticised former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and said the senior Congress leader has always shown a tendency to make "anti Hindu statements".

"He will have to regret for such statements one day....," she said.

BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj said such statements from Mr Singh perhaps only display his 'frustration'.

"I do meet him often and he also greets me with Namaskar, I am going to ask him - what has really gone wrong with you....," Sakshi Maharaj said.
