Bihar,Uttar Pradesh by-polls: BJP ahead in Gorakhpur, RJD takes early lead in Araria
Lucknow/Patna, Mar 14 (IBNS): Counting of votes for the crucial by-elections to two parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh and a parliamentary seat and two assembly seats in Bihar held recently are currently going on.
Results of Gorakhpur and Phulpur Parliamentary seats will be declared soon as counting is currently going on.
The Gorakhpur seat is considered to be witnessing a prestige battle as it was held by current state Chief Minister and BJP leader Yogi Adityanath for five terms.
He vacated the seat after becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
His deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated the Phulpur Parliamentary seat.
As per early trends, Upendra Shukla from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in Gorakhpur. Praveen Nishad from Samajwadi Party (SP) and Surhita Chatterjee Karim from Congress are the other contestants for the seat.
Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel from SP has taken early leads in Phulpur.
BJP's Kaushalendra Singh Patel and Manish Mishra from Congress are contesting against him.
In Bihar, counting is currently going on for the by-elections in Araria Lok Sabha seat.
As per early trends, RJD’s Sarafaraz Alam has taken early lead.
BJP’s Pradip Singh is the other contestant battling to capture the seat in Bihar.
In the Bhabua assembly, BJP fielded candidate Rinki Rani Pandey is leading over Shambhu Patel from Congress.
Election became necessary for the seat after the death of BJP leader Anand Bhushan Pandey.
RJD MLA Mundrika Singh Yadav's death necessitated the by-poll in the Jehanabad seat.
RJD's Kumar Krishna Mohan Yadav is leading, as per early trends.
The elections are considered to be crucial before the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.
