Bhavnagar-based trader bids Rs 1.40 cr for PM Modi's suit
Surat, Feb 19 (IBNS): A businessman on Thursday placed a bid of Rs. 1.40 crore for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's much-hyped suit that is now up for auction in Gujarat's Surat on Wednesday, media reports said.
This is the highest closing offer on the second day which was placed by a diamond trader and ship-breaking tycoon from Bhavnagar, K.K. Sharma, who is also the chairman of the Leela Group of Companies.
On day one, the bidding was closed Rs 1.1 crore.
The suit was worn by the PM just once and it went on sale.
The first bid for Rs. 51 lakh was put in by a Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) leader Rajubhai Agarwal. Later, Suresh Agrawal, a textile businessman, just doubled the offer.
According to sources, interested buyers can bid till 5 pm on Friday.
The famous navy and gold suit is now put on display at the Science Centre in the city.
