New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday transferred Howrah Rural Police Chief, IPS officer Saumya Roy, to a non-election related post as his wife, actress Lovely Moitra, has been declared as a Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate in Sonarpur assembly seat for the forthcoming West Bengal polls, officials said.

According to reports, 2011-batch IPS official, Shrihari Pandey, has been appointed as the new Howrah Rural SP.

"After posting IPS Saumya Roy to a non-election post, it may also be ensured that the officer does not leave his headquarters till completion of election for any political activity as per ECI's existing instructions," an Election Commission order regarding the transfer read.
