Moyna/Kolkata/UNI: Tension is palpable at Moyna in West Bengal's East Midnapore district on Wednesday in the wake of the BJP-sponsored 12-hour bandh in protest against the alleged kidnapping and subsequent killing of a party Booth Committee president.

Leader Of Opposition Suvendu Adhikary said on Tuesday said the party will observe dawn-to-dusk Moyna bandh on Wednesday and demanded a probe by the CBI into the alleged killing.

However, emergency services have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.

At several pockets police had to use lathis to disperse agitating BJP activists, who hit the streets to impose the shutdown.

Local BJP MLA and former cricketer Ashok Dinda led a huge bike rally in support of the strike and later met the BDO.

However, police are yet to trace the accused.

The BJP pointed its fingers at the ruling Trinamool Congress for the alleged kidnapping and subsequent killing of Bijay Krishna Bhunia.

The Trinamool Congress, however, denied its involvement and said the death was due to alleged family dispute.
