Bengal: Adhir Chowdhury set for defeat in Baharampur amid Congress' resurgence

Kolkata/IBNS: Congress strongman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is set for a defeat in the Baharampur constituency of West Bengal amid his party's resurgence in the national politics.

The 5-time MP is trailing behind TMC candidate, former cricketer Yusuf Pathan.

Reacting to the result, TMC leader Abu Taher Khan said, "We had left Adhir Chowdhury from the moment he allied with CPI-M... He has been defeated after five terms!"

Pathan's success is a reflection of how TMC performed in the Lok Sabha polls as Mamata's party is leading in 29 out of 42 seats as opposed to BJP's 12 and Congress 1.

Nationally, the BJP, which had given the '400 par' slogan, has failed to even touch the majority mark of 272.

The BJP-led NDA, which is well above 272, has also failed to touch the 300-mark.

Congress has significantly improved its tally and is leading in little less than 100 seats while INDIA alliance is over 230 seats.
