Bangladesh has contacted Delhi for Corona vaccine: FM Dr Momen
Dhaka/UNI: Bangladesh has contacted Delhi to get corona vaccine from India, Foreign Minister. AK Abdul Momen said here on Monday.
The details will be known soon he said.
The Foreign Minister said that the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Health may not know anything officially about the non-export of the Oxford AstraZeneca Corona Vaccine to India.
"I found out it on the phone in the morning. After a while I will ask the ministry if they know anything,'' he stated.
Oxford University-India decides to ban Serum Institute, an exporter of AstraZeneca vaccine. The ban will continue for several months.
Due to India's ban, it may take months for vaccines to reach ordinary people in poor countries.
In an interview with the Associated Press (AP), Adar Punawala, chief executive of the Seram Institute, said that on Sunday, India's regulatory body gave emergency approval to their vaccines. However, the condition is that the Seram Institute vaccine will not be exported to ensure the safety of the common people of India.
''We can only provide vaccines to the Indian government at the moment. It has also been instructed not to stockpile vaccines. Punawala added that Serem has also been asked to refrain from selling vaccines in India's inland market.
Earlier in the day, the Seram Institute told a meeting that countries that are interested in vaccinating them would like to focus on producing what India urgently needs two months before giving them.
On the other hand Bangladesh Health Minister Jahid Malek said in a press briefing, "There is no tension we get vaccine from India immediately. "
