Virar (Maharashtra)/IBNS: A 10-month-old baby died of her injuries sustained during an alleged molestation attempt on her 19-year-old mother while they were travelling on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway on Saturday, media reports said.

Police have filed an FIR in the case but said that the woman was changing her statements regarding the incident, Indian Express reported.

Initially, the woman told the police that she jumped out of the moving vehicle with her baby when the driver of the car tried to molest her.

According to investigators, she was going to her parents’ residence in Palghar with her child and took a Maruti Eeco in Pelhar.

However, the driver told the police that the woman was using his phone to talk to her husband when the baby fell out of her arms, following which she leaped out of the vehicle in panic.

Police said the woman was rushed to the hospital for treatment but her baby died of the injuries.

The woman, however, changed her statement later and told the police that her baby leaped out of her hands and fell on the ground.

While the police have registered a case based on her initial statement, they are investigating what exactly happened.
