Attack on JP Nadda's convoy: MHA transfers three Bengal IPS officers on Central deputation, Mamata fumes
New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: Despite the West Bengal government's objection, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed three IPS officers with the Bengal cadre, who were responsible for the security of BJP chief J.P. Nadda's convoy which faced an attack in Diamond Harbour a week ago, to immediately join their new positions under the Central deputation, reports said on Thursday.
According to sources in the MHA, these three IPS officials- DIG Presidency Range Praveen Kumar Tripathi, IG South Bengal Rajeev Mishra and Diamond Harbour Police District's SP Bhola Nath Pandey have been transferred to the posts of DIG in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on deputation for three years, IG in Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for five years and SP in Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) for four years respectively.
The Centre has asked the state government to immediately release these three IPS officers who have been transferred to the posts under the Central deputation under IPS Cadre Rule 6 (1).
Slamming the MHA's action, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote on Twitter, "GoI’s order of central deputation for the 3 serving IPS officers of West Bengal despite the State’s objection is a colourable exercise of power and blatant misuse of emergency provision of IPS Cadre Rule 1954."
"This act is nothing but a deliberate attempt to encroach upon State’s jurisdiction & demoralize the serving officers in WB. This move, particularly before the elections is against the basic tenets of the federal structure. It's unconstitutional & completely unacceptable," Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

"We wouldn’t allow this brazen attempt by the Centre to control the State machinery by proxy! West Bengal is not going to cow-down in front of expansionist & undemocratic forces," CM's tweet read.
Earlier on Dec 10, BJP chief J.P. Nadda's convoy was attacked allegedly by the workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress TMC at Sirakol area under Usthi Police Station limits in South 24 Parganas district.
Multiple vehicles and motorcycles in the motorcade were vandalized and damaged in the attack.
