Attack on J.P. Nadda's convoy: MHA calls three Bengal IPS officials to serve in Central deputation, state govt rejects proposal
New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: Days after the BJP national president J.P. Nadda's convoy came under an attack in West Bengal's Diamond Harbour area due to alleged lapses on security arrangements, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday wrote to the Bengal government asking them to release three IPS officials as the MHA wanted them to serve in Central deputation, reports said.
The three senior IPS officials, DIG Presidency Range Praveen Kumar Tripathi, IG South Bengal Rajeev Mishra and Diamond Harbour Police District's SP Bhola Nath Pandey, were reportedly responsible for BJP chief's security.
According to sources in WB government, the state responded to the MHA letter on Saturday where it has been cleared that those IPS officers won't be released for Central deputation.
Earlier on Thursday (Dec 10), BJP chief J.P. Nadda's convoy was attacked allegedly by the workers of ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) at Sirakol area under Usthi Police Station limits in South 24 Parganas district.
Multiple vehicles and motorcycles in the motorcade were vandalized and damaged in the attack.
Following the incident, the Centre had sought a report from the state and directed West Bengal Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) to present themselves physically before the MHA in New Delhi on Monday (Dec 14).
Explaining the security arrangements for J.P. Nadda and his convoy and the actions taken by the state following the incident, Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay on Friday requested the Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla to excuse him and the DGP from attending MHA office physically.
Meanwhile, criticising the Centre's step, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has also written to the Union Home Secretary.
