Assam Rifles seize Rs 16 crore worth drugs along Manipur-Myanmar border
Imphal, Apr 3 (IBNS) : Troops of Assam Rifles on Monday seized huge quantity of narcotics worth Rs 16 crore in Manipur’s Moreh town, bordering Myanmar.
Acting on specific inputs about a bus modified to carry wooden planks, Assam Rifles troops intercepted the vehicle at a checking post at Khudengthabi on National Highway 102 near Moreh town.
While checking the bus, the security personnel recovered around 3.20 lakh contraband (World is Yours) tablets weighing a total of 39 kg.
A top official of Assam Rifles said the contraband drugs were found well concealed in a specially modified compartment below the seats of the driver and co-driver.
He said the price of the drugs in the international market is estimated to be about Rs 16 crore.
The security personnel apprehended the drug trafficker, identified as Mohammad Elas Khan of Mayang Imphal of Imphal West district.
The seized drugs and the drug trafficker were handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal.
Myanmar is the largest producer of WIY tablets, which are often trafficked into India through Manipur border.
Since 2017, Assam Rifles has recovered contraband items worth around Rs 70 crore in Manipur.
Last month, Assam Rifles had seized drugs worth Rs 24 crore on NH 102 in Manipur.
