Guwahati, Aug 29 (IBNS): Security forces have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in two separate operations in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur on Monday, officials said.

In the first operation, the troops of Assam Rifles recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition belonging to Naga militants from Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Monday evening.

Based on an intelligence input regarding  presence of NSCN(R) cadres in general area  Kovin Honkap trying to terrorize and carryout extortion , the Jairampur battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of DAO division launched a major operation at the area and recovered an AK-56, a M-16 Rifle with ammunition, an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher and other incriminating evidence.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwar said that while the operation was being launched the column came under fire from the insurgents, the party effectively retaliated and brought down heavy fire on the insurgents forcing them to abandon their weapons and flee.

"Blood stains at the site indicates towards likely casualty of the insurgents, the security forces are on the lookout for these insurgents and have launched multiple parties to track them who had fled the incident site using garb of darkness and dense vegetation," the Defence PRO said.

Security forces have been carrying out relentless operations in South Arunachal Pradesh and this operation has stuck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the insurgents in the area.

In separate operation, the troops of Assam Rifles had recovered  weapons and explosives from Bishnupur district in Manipur.

Security personnel had recovered an AK-56 Rifle, one mag, 50 rounds of live ammunition and three grenades belonging to the militants.
