Guwahati:  Altogether nine individuals have been arrested by the Assam Police Crime Branch in connection with the alleged human sacrifice at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, which occurred in June 2019.

The victim has been identified as a woman who arrived at the temple by train and prayed before her death.

The arrests were made after a special team formed by the police to track old pending heinous cases discovered a bag belonging to the victim in Cooch Bihar during a raid.

The bag contained the victim's Aadhar card and train ticket to Guwahati.

Upon interrogation, the suspects revealed that the mastermind of the incident was a government employee named Pradeep Pathak from Varanasi.

Sources suggest that the apprehended suspects, who are from West Bengal, may have been involved in the human sacrifice ceremony.

The Kamakhya Temple is highly regarded in India, and the Ambubachi festival attracts a large number of pilgrims annually.
