Assam: Mob vandalised government-run hospital, attacked doctor after youth died

Guwahati, May 21 (IBNS): A mob had vandalised a government run hospital and attacked a doctor in Assam’s Dima Hasao district after a youth died in the hospital.

The incident took place at Umrangso hospital in the hill district on May 19.

According to the reports, a local youth named Arjun Paul (28) was brought to the hospital by family members after he complained of breathing problems.

The youth breathed his last after a short while at the hospital, but the local people alleged that, the youth was died due to non-availability of oxygen.

Later, a mob had reached the hospital and vandalised the government-run hospital and also attacked a doctor.

The mob had broken the doors, windows of the hospital and also attacked the in-charge of the hospital, Dr M K Bailung.

The doctor was badly injured in the mob attack.

Later, the hospital authority had lodged a complaint at the Umrangso police station.

“When I reached at the hospital, huge crowd gathered there and a patient was lying in a bed. The patient was declared dead few times ago. I tried and checked the patient cardio. After that, some people had attacked me and also vandalised the hospital. They had broken windows, doors of the hospital,” Dr M K Bailung said.

Meanwhile, Assam health department director Dr Rathindra Bhuyan said that, the health department has already lodged an FIR and the entire matter will be looked by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council.
