Assam government distributes appointment letters to 767 candidates in education department

Guwahati: Kick starting the process for providing government jobs to 1 lakh unemployed youths in the state, the Assam government distributed appointment letters to 767 candidates in different directorates of education department on regular and compassionate ground.

During the assembly polls in the state, the ruling BJP had promised to give government jobs to 1 lakh unemployed youths in the state.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday distributed the appointment letters during a function held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

While 616 candidates were appointed under Directorate of elementary education, 32 candidates were given appointment under secondary education directorate, 113 candidates under higher education directorate and 6 nos. of candidates under the directorate of state council of educational research and training.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the state government after coming to power made a pledge to provide employment to 1 lakh youth of the state.

“While fulfilling this promise the state government today launched the appointment process and soon advertisement would be published for several thousand jobs in the education department besides conducting TET, this process would be completed within March next year,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Saying that the state government is gearing up to implement the New Education Policy from 1st April, 2022, the Assam Chief Minister said that under this policy all high schools would be upgraded to senior secondary school.

“The government would upgrade academic infrastructure of the educational institutions for this purpose within a year. A new teaching model would be introduced in the senior secondary schools under which Science, Mathematics and English would be taught in English language and rest of the subjects in mother tongue. The state government would continue implementing new provisions of the policy every year to bring about a transformative change in the education department in next five years,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Assam Education minister Ranoj Pegu said that, the Assam government had earlier announced to give 1 lakh employment and special cabinet committee was constituted to work out this.

“Today on completion of 100 days of the current state government, we have started the recruitment process 1 lakh jobs by giving appointment letters to 767 teaching and non-teaching staff under the education department. Very soon we will publish our advertisement for regular teacher appointment,” Ranoj Pegu said.
