Guwahati, Feb 28 (IBNS) : At least four persons were killed and 25 others injured as about a dozen houses caught fire following a gas tanker accident in Assam's Golaghat district on Tuesday, officials said.

According to the reports, several houses caught fire after a gas tanker turned turtle on  the NH-37 and the leaked gas spread to the nearby Rangoliting village, igniting the massive fire.

Local villagers said that one Bimal Bhuyan, his wife and daughter were burnt to death after they got trapped inside their burning house.

Golaghat police said another person succumbed to his injuries at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.

The accident took place at around 1-30 am and surprisingly the blaze caught the village houses when people were sleeping.

Some people fled to the nearest paddy fields and saved themselves.

Meanwhile, top officials and experts of Numaligarh Refinery Limited have rushed to the area.
