Assam flood situation improves, death toll mounts to 88

Guwahati, Jul 29 (IBNS): The situation in Assam has improved after the water levels in the flood-hit areas are receded, but still over 12 lakh people of 16 districts in the state are still affected in the current flood.

With four more deaths, the total death toll mounted to 88 so far.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two people drowned in floodwaters in Barpeta district while one each in Kokrajhar and Dhubri district in the past 24 hours.

1,113 number of villages in 37 revenue circles and 82,609 hectares of cropland are still underwater.

Presently, 322 numbers of Relief Camps are operational in Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Chirang, Dhubri, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon and Jorhat districts with 14,727 inmates and 66 Relief Distribution Centres in Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Kamrup districts.
