Assam flood claims 7 more lives taking death toll mounts to 59

Guwahati, July 15 (IBNS): The flood situation in Assam remained grim as seven more deaths were reported on Saturday, taking the death toll to 59 and affecting over 11.93 lakh people of 24 districts across the state.

According to the reports of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), seven persons were drowned in Sivsagar, Morigaon, Bongaigaon, South Salmara, Sonitpur and Jorhat distrcts.

“Till Saturday, over 11.93 lakh people of 1795 villages under 64 revenue circles in 24 districts are affected and 66,517.89 hectares crop areas are still under flood waters,” the ASDMA report said.

A top official of ASDMA said more than 3.06 lakh people are affected in South Salmara district, while 1.94 lakh people affected in Dhubri and 1.78 lakh in Morigaon.
