Assam Congress starts ‘NRC help yatra’ to help excluded 'genuine' Indians

Guwahati, Sept 16 (IBNS): Aiming to help the genuine Indian citizens who were left out from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC), which published on Aug 31, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has started a state-wise ‘NRC Help Yatra’.

Over 19 lakh people were left out from the final list and now they need valid documents to establish their citizenship in the Foreigners Tribunal.

A high-level team of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has visited different places of the state and took stock the post-NRC scenario.

The team also interacted with the people whose names were excluded from the final NRC.

The team has created awareness and sensitised the people about the procedures of appeal in the Foreigners Tribunals.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora said that the people who were excluded from the final NRC are so poor and illiterate that they don’t know where to go or how to do.

“These people are panicked. So we came to them and boosted up their confidence and assured them of help. The Congress party will with them till the last name is included in the NRC. We have sensitised the people with our advocates so that they can go for appeal without any problem because it is a very tough job. A lot of papers are required,” Ripun Bora said.

On Sunday, the Congress team had visited Kaki Derapathar and Rupahi area in central Assam’s Hojai and Nagaon district and took part in several awareness meetings.
