Guwahati/IBNS: Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), the ruling party of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) of Assam, has faced a major setback after its lone MP Biswajit Daimary has resigned from the working president post of the party just before the council election.

Biswajit Daimary on Wednesday had resigned from the Working President post of BPF and sent his resignation letter to party chief Hagrama Mahilary.

Biswajit Daimary, who is one of the founder members of BPF, is all set to join BJP.

In a press conference held in Guwahati, Biswajit Daimary said that he resigned from the working president post and will resign from the party soon.

In his resignation letter, Biswajit Daimary said, "I am resigning as Working President of BPF as on date of this letter as you well know, this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last three months.”

"While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the beginning to serve the people of my state and country. I believe I am unable to do this anymore within this party. To reflect and realize the aspiration of my people and my workers, I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start," Biswajit Daimary said in his resignation letter.

"I have not resigned from the primary membership of BPF. There are some technical problems being an elected member of Rajya Sabha and completing the legal process I will resign from the party," Biswajit Daimary said.

The BTC election will be held next month.
