Army Major arrested over killing of another officer's wife

New Delhi, June 24 (IBNS): An Indian Army major has been arrested by the police from Meerut town in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the alleged murder of a woman, media reports said.

The deceased person is reportedly the wife of another Army officer.

The arrested person has been identified as  Nikhil Rai Handa.

Nikhil Rai Handa was arrested by a Delhi Police team in Meerut’s Sadar, said Ranvijay Singh, Superintendent of Police (City) told Hindustan Times.

Shailaja Dwivedi and her husband Amit Dwivedi  stayed in west Delhi’s Naraina  area.

She was found dead on a road close to the Delhi Cantonment metro station, media reports said.

It is still not known whether the woman was hit by the killer's car or by any other passing vehicle.

Vijay Kumar, deputy commissioner of Delhi Police (West), told Hindustan Times the brother of a suspect is being questioned. He refused to confirm if an arrest had been made in the case.
