Another global milestone: PM Modi gets Sweden’s prestigious Commander Grand Cross Honour

Indian PM Narendra Modi received Sweden's Royal Order of Polar Star, Commander Grand Cross, on the first day of his visit to the country in the third leg of his five-nation tour.

This is the country's utmost recognition and honour that can be conferred upon the head of the government.

Sharing details about the prestigious award received by him, India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X: "Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden conferred upon PM @narendramodi the ‘Royal Order of the Polar Star, Degree Commander Grand Cross’ in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the - relationship and his visionary leadership.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal further said: " The Prime Minister dedicated the honour to the historic ties between India and Sweden, and described it as a tribute to the warmth and affection shared between the people of India and Sweden."

Earlier in the day, Modi arrived in Sweden after completing his trip to the Netherlands.

His Swedish counterpart  Ulf Kristersson visited the  Gothenburg Airport to welcome Modi to the country.

After arriving in the country, Modi was accorded a grand welcome by the Indian diaspora members.

Modi was welcomed with a musical performance that included the rendition of 'Vaishnava Jana To' bhajan by Swedish opera singer Charlotta Huldt and a mesmerising Bharatanatyam performance by the students of Lilla Akademien.

After arriving in Sweden, Modi wrote on X: " Landed in Gothenburg, Sweden. I will be meeting Prime Minister Kristersson with the aim of advancing the India-Sweden friendship in trade, investments, innovation, defence and more. With PM Kristersson and President of the European Commission, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, I will be meeting European business leaders at the European Business Round Table for Industry. This will also deepen investment linkages between India and Europe."

Appreciating the PM's gesture of personally welcoming him at the airport, Modi said: " I’m grateful to Prime Minister Kristersson for the special gesture of coming to receive me at Gothenburg airport. Looking forward to boosting India-Sweden friendship in this important visit."

Modi shared a video on X where he could be seen welcomed to the country by the Bengali community of the country.

He said: " During the community welcome, in which PM Kristersson was also present, a glimpse of the glorious Bengali culture was on display."
