Andhra Pradesh Assembly passes Lok Ayukta bill

Amaravati, July 26 (UNI): The Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Friday passed the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta (Amendment) Act 2019 enabling the appointment of a Lok Ayukta.

The amendment to the Act creates a provision for appointing a retired chief justice or a retired judge of high court as Lok Ayukta.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that for the last five years, the previous government had kept the mater pending and did not make a simple amendment to the bill.

During the past five years, the Naidu led previous government had never been serious and did not make the small changes that would enable to the setting up of Lok Ayukta, he flayed. The changes required were to include the names of retired chief justice or retired judge of a high court in the act, he said.
