Amusement park accident leaves two dead, 28 injured in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, July 14 (IBNS): Two persons were killed and 28 injured when a ride at an amusement park in the Gujarat capital came crashing down on Sunday evening.

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra said the injured were admitted to L G Hospital.

“An inquiry has been ordered. The police, along with a forensic team, reached the spot to find out the reasons behind the accident,” Hindustan Times quoted Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra as saying. He added that the injured had been admitted to LG Hospital.

Reports said the ride, named ‘Discovery’ was 65 feet tall and swung 30 feet on either side.

A Hindustan Times reports said a wire in the hydraulic pulley broke down soon after the ride begun its first round of the day. The cause of the failure of hydraulic system will be investigated by the FSL, police said.

Congress councillor Baddrudin Sheikh said: “The ruling BJP failed to ensure a regular maintenance. A complaint of negligence should be registered against AMC authorities.”

The BJP said the Congress was politicising deaths.
