Chandigarh/IBNS: Top Sikh body Akal Takht has given an ultimatum to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab and Centre over the police's crackdown against separatist leader Amritpal Singh, mdia reports said.

The body has questioned why similar actions were not taken against those who demand Hindu Rashtra.

Its Jathedar or spokesperson Giani Harpreet Singh has given a 24-hour ultimatum to police to release all Sikh youths who were detained in connection with the crackdown.

Giani Harpreet Singh said as quoted by NDTV, "There are lakhs who demand Hindu rashtra. Those who are calling for Hindu Rashtra should also be booked .They should also be booked under NSA."

Police claimed they have so far released 197 of 353 people who were taken into preventive custody.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said he has asked police to release those who have no involvement with the anti-national activities.

However strict action will be taken against those who try to disturb peace, added the Chief Minister.
