Amravati violence fallout: Sec 144 imposed in Pune
Pune/UNI: Taking a serious note of the recent communal violence in Amravati and few other districts, Pune's district collector Rajesh Deshmukh and superintendent of police Avhinab Deshmukh have imposed section 144 of Indian Penal Code here till November 20.
According to reports, the violence was reported in Amravati, Nanded, Malegaon and other parts of Maharashtra following a march organised by the Raza Academy on Nov 12 to protest the alleged violence in Tripura, which compelled the district administration to impose section 144 in rural areas with immediate effect.
Talking to UNI, district collector Deshmukh said, "We have imposed IPC section 144 for seven days to prevent any untoward incident."
In the notification, the district collector has appealed the people to avoid rumours and ensure that no any untoward incident takes place anywhere in the district.
The preventive order prohibits persons from posting or sharing communal or objectionable content on social media, including YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.
Similarly, the SP said that anyone found in violation of the rules or posting any inflammatory remarks regarding any particular caste or religion will be held responsible and face inquiry.
A report from Nagpur said Nagpur Police, too, have imposed Section 144 in Nagpur city amid the incidents of violence in Amravati.
All the deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) initiated preventive action under their respective zones in order to maintain peace and tranquility following the directives of commissioner of police (CP), Nagpur City, Amitesh Kumar, Joint CP Nagpur City Aswati Dorje and Addl CPs.
Police have urged the citizens to refrain from spreading rumours and maintaining law and order in the city.
The citizens were also requested to avoid forwarding messages or videos that can disturb communal harmony.
A warning was issued that any such act will be dealt with strongly by the police administration.
