Amit Shah cancels his West Bengal visit today

Kolkata, Dec 7 (IBNS): Amid clouds over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s 'Ganatantra Bachao Yatra (Save Democracy Yatra)' in West Bengal, party's national president Amit Shah has cancelled his state visit, media reports said.

The yatra was scheduled to be flagged off by Shah from West Bengal's Cooch Behar at 4 pm on Friday.

Shah will address a press conference at 1 pm in New Delhi to state the reason for his cancellation of his trip.

Shah's cancelled his state visit a day after the Calcutta High Court denied permission to the 40-day yatra of the BJP owing to security reasons. The court had asked the BJP not to hold the yatra till January 9, the next hearing date.

Meanwhile, the BJP had moved the division bench of the high court against the verdict passed on Thursday. The bench will hear the plea on Friday.

The West Bengal government told the court that it cannot grant permission for the yatra as it cannot make arrangement in such a short period of time.
