All-party resolution calls for peace and dialogue in Kashmir, says no compromise with sovereignty

The resolution was released  after a three-hour-long meeting in Delhi of parliamentarians from 20 parties who had recently visited Jammu and Kashmir, where at least 75 people have been killed and about 10,000 injured during violent protests over the last two months.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting.

According to reports, the resolution has asked the central and state government to hold dialogues with  all stakeholders and called for ensuring security of citizens and security forces in the valley.

At Wednesday's meeting,  not a single national opposition party accused Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's government in Jammu and Kashmir of failing to handle the situation, media reports said.

The unrest in Kashmir  began on July 8 after the encounter death of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said those who participated at the meeting appealed for taking steps to reopen schools and other institutions in Kashmir.

He said the Government is open to discussion with all.

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said his party has demanded that the  Centre must consult political parties in the state.

CPI(M) leader  Sitaram Yechury said taking confidence building measures was the need of the hour.
