New Delhi: UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly brought up the issue of the BBC tax searches during his meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today, and was “firmly told that all entities operating in India must comply fully with the relevant laws and regulations”, sources said.

According to the sources, “UK Foreign Secretary brought up BBC tax issue with EAM today. He was firmly told that all entities operating in India must comply fully with relevant laws and regulations.”

Last month, Indian tax officials conducted three days of searches at the New Delhi and Mumbai offices of the British broadcaster, amid allegations of tax evasion.

The searches came days after a documentary aired by the British broadcaster about the 2002 Gujarat riots.
