Akhilesh Yadav in controversy over PK slip
Lucknow, Jan 2 (IBNS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has landed himself in a controversy of 'piracy' while declaring the Bollywood film 'PK' tax free in his state.
While exempting the movie from entertainment tax in his state, he said: "People had been telling me for many days to watch 'PK'. I downloaded it a few days ago, but only found the time to watch it last night at 10," Yadav had said.
He said he was impressed by the film and decided to make it tax free.
However, he landed himself in controversy for telling that he "downloaded" the film. He has been accused of downloading pirated film version from the internet.
Founder of TAHRIR (Transparency, Accountability and Human Rights Initiative for Revolution) Sanjay Sharma has moved an application with the Hazratganj Police on Friday requesting it to lodge an FIR under Section 154 of the CrPC against Yadav for the offence of downloading the film from a website and watching a pirated copy of the film, reports said.
The CM's office has however defended Yadav.
"#UPCM #Akhileshyadav has licensed @UFOMoviez digifacility to download & watch movies. Controversy around pirated download is unwarranted-CMO," Chief Minister's office tweeted.
