Lucknow/UNI: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, who on Saturday termed the Covid vaccines used for immunisation in India as "BJP's vaccine" that couldn't be trusted and also urged people to not get immunised, changed his statement on Sunday.

"The Covid-19 vaccination is a sensitive matter and BJP should not make it an event management programme. The government should make proper arrangements before commencing the vaccination and it should also announce the dates when the poor would be getting it," he said.

The former UP CM while talking to mediapersons also appreciated the role of the scientists and doctors who have made several sacrifices to develop this vaccine.

On Saturday afternoon, Mr Yadav had announced in a press conference that he will not take the "BJP's vaccine" evoking severe criticism from different quarters.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav's uncle and founder of Pragatsheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) Shivpal Singh Yadav along with BSP president Mayawati have hailed the roll out of Covid vaccine in the country.

But they have demanded that poor should be given vaccine free of cost on priority basis.

They have also congratulated the scientists for making the vaccine in a short time.

The vaccination programme in UP is slated to commence from Makar Sankranti for which dry run would be held in the entire 75 districts of the state on January 5.
