Guwahati/IBNS: Lone Rajya Sabha MP of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) Biswajit Daimary and its sitting MLA Emmanuel Mosahary joined BJP on Sunday.

20,000 party workers have also joined the BJP along with two top leaders of BPF during a public meeting held at Kumarikata area in Assam’s Baksa district under the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).

BPF is an ally party of BJP-led Assam government and the BPF party has faced a major hit after its two powerful leaders joined BJP ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections and assembly polls in the state and the elections for the 40-member BTC will be held on December 7 and 10.

Biswajit Daimary had resigned as a member from Rajya Sabha on Saturday.

Both influencing leaders of BPF joined the BJP in presence of Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state party president Ranjit Kumar Dass, BJP’s national General Secretary Dilip Saikia and other senior leaders.

Emmanuel Mosahary said that, BPF has ruled in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) which covers four districts – Kokrajhar, Chirang, Udalguri and Baksa, for the last 17 years and the party has totally failed to fulfill all the aspects of the people of the region.

"There is an incumbency factor in BTAD areas and BPF’s popularity is now declining. There is also an incumbency factor. So, BJP will form the next council by getting an absolute majority," Emmanuel Mosahary said.

He further said that BJP will form the next council in BTC.
