New Delhi: Indian conglomerate Adani Group has acquired  the strategic Israeli port of Haifa for USD 1.2 billion.

The conglomerate's chief Gautam Adani also met Israel President Benjamin Netanyahu during the event.

He tweeted: " Privileged to meet with @IsraeliPM@netanyahuon this momentous day as the Port of Haifa is handed over to the Adani Group. The Abraham Accord will be a game changer for the Mediterranean sea logistics. Adani Gadot set to transform Haifa Port into a landmark for all to admire."

It is also the biggest in shipping tourist cruise ships .

Meanwhile, Israeli Ambassador to India Naor Gilon reacted to the development and told the media: "Since the Adani group is very strong in Shipping and trade part we hope that their connection will give push to our good economic relations."

The Indian Embassy to Israel described the moment as a 'success story'.

" Another success story of India -Israel partnership. In a ceremony attended by PM @netanyahu, Minister@regev_miriand@gautam_adani, the ownership of Israel’s second largest port was transferred to Adani-Gadot group," tweeted the Embassy.
