Actor Dinyar Contractor dies in Mumbai

Mumbai, June 5 (IBNS): Actor Dinyar Contractor, who is known for his brilliant performance in several comedy serials in the 90s, passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday.

He was 79.

He was reportedly suffering from age-related ailments.

The actor will be best remembered for her performance in serials like  Khichdi and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

He was conferred the Padma Shri this year.

PM Narendra Modi mourned the death of the actor and tweeted: "Padma Shri Dinyar Contractor was special because he spread lots of happiness. His versatile acting brought smiles on several faces. Be it theatre, television or films, he excelled across all mediums. Saddened by his demise. My thoughts are with his family and admirers."

Union Minister Smriti Irani, who was a popular face on Indian TV before joining politics, also condoled the loss of the actor and tweeted: "He brought bursts of laughter with him wherever he went, he lit up the screen and our lives with his wit & charm. We will miss your presence Dinyar bhai. Rest in Peace Padma Shri Dinyar Contractor - theatre legend, actor par excellence ."
