AAP MLA salary hike: Congress workers protest outside Kejriwal's residence

New Delhi, Oct 7 (IBNS): The Congress workers on Wednesday protested over the proposed hike of Delhi MLA's salary as they demonstrated outside Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's residence.

The workers were seen raising slogans against the AAP.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lawmakers may soon get a 400% pay hike, media reports said on Tuesday.

The salary amount, which will come around Rs. 3.2 lakh, will be the highest for a legislator in the country.

The recommendation to hike the salary of legislators was made by a committee appointed by the Delhi assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel.

In July, some lawmakers from the AAP had asked for a hike, stating that the amount they draw is not enough to run their homes and offices.

The new committee has recommended raising the lawmakers' basic salary from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 50,000, the constituency allowance from Rs.18,000 to 50,000 and conveyance allowance from Rs. 6000 to Rs. 30,000 - among other hikes, media reports said.
