29,000 in Kashmir turn up for Indian Army recruitment rally, says defence official

Srinagar, Sept 3 (IBNS): While Kashmir continued to remain a zone of divide between foreign media and Indian media reporting, there is one news heartening for New Delhi amid a negative global campaign over the lockdown.  Some 29000 young people of Kashmir from seven districts have applied for the Army recruitment rally at Talwara.

The recruitment rally in Talwara town on Tuesday was the maiden attempt by the defence forces since the scrapping of Articles 370 and 35A took place which had once granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

In a move that can be called as a perfect game changer, the central government on Aug 5 withdrew Jammu and Kashmir's special status by abrogating Articles 370 and 35A.

Also, the central government bifurcated the valley into two Union Territories- Jammu and Kashmir (with an assembly) and Ladakh (without an assembly).

Jammu-based PRO Lt Col Devender Anand was quoted as saying by an Indian news agency, "Over 29,000 aspiring youths from Jammu region have registered and are likely to be screened for physical and medical fitness during the week-long rally. On the first day of the rally, more than 2,500 candidates from districts of Kishtwar and Ramban converged for the physical fitness tests.”

The rally is being conducted in the state by Counter Insurgency Force (Uniform) of Indian Army through the Army Recruitment Office in Jammu.

Candidates will need to pass through several rounds of test for the recruitment to the posts.
