Lucknow: Two minor Dalit sisters were found hanging from a tree in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district, according to media reports.

The deceased have been identified as Poonam (15) and Manisha (17).

According to NDTV, the mother of the girls told reporters that her daughters were abducted by men on motorcycles.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem and a large police force has been deployed in the area.

On information, the Nighasan police reached the spot immediately, according to a statement issued in Hindi.

The police are working to confirm the cause of death and establish the sequence of events.

"The girls were found hanging by their own dupattas. There were no apparent injuries on the body," Laxmi Singh, Inspector General of Police, Lucknow Range was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The postmortem will be conducted by a panel of experts, he added.

"We will file an FIR based on whatever the family tells us in their complaint," he said.
