2 crore people of Delhi are my family members: Kejriwal pledges as he takes oath as CM

New Delhi/IBNS: Following his thumping win in the recently-concluded assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal, fondly regarded as 'the mufflerman', on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi for the third consecutive time at the city's iconic Ramlila Maidan and said he wants to work for the national capital along with all parties including his oppositions.

After taking the oath, he said: "For the last five years, we have been trying to improve the lives of the people of Delhi and shall continue doing so."

He said, "I am the chief minister of Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and also Congress. I worked equally for every party."

He said there is a need to rise above all party politics and think for the welfare of Delhi and the nation.

"All the 2 crore people of Delhi are my family members. Whichever party you belong to...it doesn't matter, come to me anytime you need," said he.

"I have forgiven all my opponents for their hate speech. I want to work for the welfare of Delhi with all parties," said he.

He said people are often mocking about his free schemes in Delhi but several valuable things in the world are free.

"When a mother loves her child it is free and so is my love for Delhi. Will I start taking fees to provide education for my children of Delhi? Shame on such CM," he said.

The CM of common men ended his speech by singing "We Shall overcome..." in Hindi.

The AAP has bagged a whopping 62 of the 70 seats of Delhi's Legislative Assembly at the high-profile election, leaving just eight seats for the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Repeating the 2015 results, Congress failed to win a single seat this time as well.

For his oath-taking ceremony, Kejriwal had also invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who could not attend the ceremony as he is visiting his constituency Varanasi on Sunday.

His old team comprising Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Imran Hussain and Rajendra Gautam, who have been appointed as ministers in the Delhi government, are also taking oath along with him.
